Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD)

Discs are the structures that connect one vertebra to another. The outer layer of a disc is similar to duct tape, and the inner layer of the disc is similar to gelatin. When the outer layer of the disc cracks and the the gelatin loses water, then the disc itself shrinks. This process can chemically irritate the nerve due to leaking of the gelatin. The loss of disc height can cause Stenosis, which shrinks the nerve outlet which can result in pinching of the nerve. Either way, you end up with the pain and discomfort of Degenerative Disc Disease.

  • Degenerative Disc Disease is the break down and shrinking of a spinal disc
  • It can be experienced as pain in the neck and arm or the low back and leg, and/or numbness, tingling, or weakness in the arm or leg
  • Commonly, people over the age of 60 have DDD at some level in their spine because it is a natural process of aging.
  • Additionally, early onset of DDD can be caused by poor long-term posture, traumatic sport or work injuries, motor vehicle accidents, smoking and/or poor nutrition

Herniated Bulging Disc

Discs are the structures that connect one vertebra to the other – the outer layer of a disc is similar to duct tape, and the inner layer of the disc is similar to gelatin. When the outer layer of the disc thins or breaks, the gelatin swells or spills out into the area where the spinal cord and nerve root live. If the disc touches the nerve then the nerve is mechanically pinched. If the disc leaks then the nerve is chemically irritated. Either way, you end up with pain and discomfort.

  • A Herniated Bulging Disc is the swelling or break down of a disc in the spine
  • Herniated Bulging Discs can be experienced as: pain in the neck and arm or the low back and leg, and/or numbness, tingling, or weakness in the arm or leg
  • Herniated Bulging Discs have several different causes including: poor long-term sitting and bending posture, traumatic sport or work injuries, motor vehicle accidents, heavy lifting, and/or stomach sleeping habits
  • Herniated Bulging Disc: A Herniated Disc, also known as a disc bulge, is a painful condition that can be treated with physical therapy.
You’re going to get better in … 8 to 12 visits! Herniated Bulging Disc Treatment Includes:
  • Joint Mobilization
  • Joint Manipulation
  • Therapeutic Massage
  • Individualized Therapeutic Exercise program to improve cervical stability to reduce excessive tension
  • Can include desensitizing central nervous system (Associative Awareness Technique)
  • Can include Trigger Point Dry Needling and/or Therapeutic Taping

Jaw Pain (TMJ)

  • TMJ is facial pain caused by the Temporomandibular joint and/or jaw muscles which causes loss of the ability to talk and/or eat normally
  • TMJ can be experienced as jaw pain, jaw popping, jaw locking, and ear pain
  • TMJ can have several different causes including jaw degeneration, upper cervical restriction, and poor posture
You’re going to get better in … 6 to 12 Visits! Jaw or TMJ Treatment includes:
  • Joint Mobilization of jaw and neck
  • Therapeutic Massage to jaw and neck muscles
  • Individualized Therapeutic Exercise program to improve jaw and neck movement patterns

Neck Pain

  • Neck Pain can be experienced as pain, tension, headaches and loss of range of motion in the neck – it can also be experienced as ear pain, ear ringing, ear/head congestion
  • Pain in the neck has several different causes including: joint and/or muscle strain or sprain, poor posture or sleeping habits, poor ergonomics in the workplace, accidents, falls or impact
  • Neck Pain can be commonly diagnosed by your doctor as Myofascial Pain Syndrome or Facet Joint Inflammation
You’re going to get better in… 8 to 12 VISITS! Neck Pain Treatment includes:
  • Joint Mobilization
  • Joint Manipulation
  • Therapeutic Massage
  • Can include Trigger Point Dry Needling or desensitizing the central nervous system (Associative Awareness Technique)

Numbness + Tingling

The feeling of numbness or tingling, or pain that you can’t put your finger on, is a sign that a nerve in your body is irritated. Read below for specific areas of the body to help you understand your specific condition. Please note, the symptoms of nerve irritation can show up as pain, numbness and tingling together, or just one or the other. NECK/ SHOULDER / ELBOW/ WRIST

  • Do you wake up with your hands “asleep” and have to shake them out in order to feel normal?
  • Do your arms or hands tingle when your ride or bike or use your computer?
  • Have you ever felt a pain, numbness or tingling in your arms or hands for no apparent reason and can’t seem to make it go away?
You may be experiencing:
  • Nerve irritation due to inflammation or pinching of the nerve in your neck, chest (Thoracic Outlet), elbow (Cubital/Radial Tunnel) or wrist (Carpal Tunnel)
  • Nerve irritation can be caused by joint restriction, inflammation or muscle tightness in these areas
LOW BACK / HIP/ KNEE / FOOT / ANKLE
  • Do your legs or feet ever fall “asleep” when you sit or drive for long periods of time?
  • Do your legs or feet tingle when you stand or walk?
  • Have you ever felt pain, numbness or tingling in your lower back, legs or feet for no apparent reason and can’t seem to make it go away?
You may be experiencing:
  • Sciatica which is nerve irritation due to inflammation or pinching of the nerve in your lower back, gluteal muscles (Piriformis Syndrome), or ankle (Tarsal Tunnel)
  • Nerve irritation can be caused by joint restriction, inflammation or muscle tightness in these areas
  • Numbness and tingling can be the result of a pinched nerve
You’re going to get better in… 8 to 16 visits! Treatment Includes:
  • Joint Mobilization
  • Joint Manipulation
  • Therapeutic Massage
  • Can include Trigger Point Dry Needling or desensitizing the central nervous system (Associative Awareness Technique)

Stenosis

  • Stenosis: sounds scary but the truth is – most of us outlive our spine these days!
  • Stenosis is the narrowing of the holes where the nerves come out between the vertebrae
  • It can be experienced as numbness, tingling and pain in the arm or leg areas with looking up, standing up, walking and/or back bending
  • Stenosis has several different causes including: long-term poor posture, weak abdominal muscles, and Degenerative Disc Disease, which is a natural process of aging
  • Stenosis - we all age and can experience this
You’re going to get better in … 8 to 12 visits! Stenosis Treatment Includes:
  • Joint Mobilization
  • Joint Manipulation
  • Therapeutic Massage
  • Can include Trigger Point Dry Needling or desensitizing the central nervous system (Associative Awareness Technique)

Tinnitus (Ear Ringing)

  • Tinnitus is when abnormal sounds appear within the inner ear
  • Can be experienced as ear ringing, clicking, wooshing, rumbling, humming, etc.
  • Can be caused by several issues including: neck tension and or joint dysfunction, stress
YOU’RE GOING TO GET BETTER IN… 6 TO 12 VISITS! Tinnitus Treatment includes:
  • Joint Mobilization
