dizziness + balance + nEUROLOGICAL CONDITIONS
a condition in which the crystals in the inner ear are displaced and create Vertigo (dizziness)
can be experienced as sudden spinning in particular positions – usually bending over, lying down, or tipping your head to the side. This spinning feeling is intense and lasts a few seconds to a few minutes, and can cause extreme nausea and vomiting in some cases.
The onset of BPPV is correlated with many things and has no true known cause. These correlations include: acute viruses, traumatic impact to the head, whiplash, and/or use of antibiotics. Clinically, we have noticed BPPV is highly correlated with chronic neck pain and/or high stress levels.
You’re going to get better in … 1 to 4 visits!
BPPV Treatment Includes:
Epley’s Maneuver (replacement of crystals in inner ear) – or variations of this maneuver, depending on where your crystals are displaced
If further rehab is needed:
Vestibular Rehabilitation (therapeutic exercise to strengthen inner ear function & body’s ability to balance)
Joint Mobilization
Joint Manipulation
Therapeutic Massage
Trigger Point Dry Needling
Associative Awareness Technique (AAT)
Neck joint inflammation or dysfunction and neck muscle tightness that results in Vertigo (dizziness) or disequilibrium
Usually experienced as the inability to focus, wooziness, lightheadedness, or feeling like you are on a boat. It can be experienced as intense dizziness and spinning, although rare.
Can be caused by acute injury to the neck, chronic neck pain, untreated neck injuries, whiplash, and/or poor posture or stomach sleeping
You’re going to get better in … 8 to 12 visits!
Treatment Can Include:
Proprioceptive Training (position sensors in the neck joints)
Joint Mobilization
Joint Manipulation
Therapeutic Massage
Trigger Point Dry Needling
Associative Awareness Technique (AAT)
Neurological movement disorder caused by early brain injury affecting muscle tone, coordination, and motor control.
Usually experienced as muscle stiffness or tightness, poor balance, coordination challenges, abnormal gait patterns, or delayed motor skills. Presentation varies widely depending on severity and type.
Can be caused by injury to the developing brain before, during, or shortly after birth.
You’re going to get better in … 8 to 16 visits!
Treatment Can Include:
Motor Control Training
Gait Training
Balance and Coordination Exercises
Stretching and Mobility Work
Strength Training
Functional Movement Retraining
A problem in one of the body’s systems that the brain uses to balance – these systems include vision (Oculomotor), inner ear function (Vestibular), and touch sensors in the feet, spine, and particularly in the neck joints (Proprioception)
Your Physical Therapy Evaluation will determine which system is malfunctioning and your PT will treat it accordingly to get you back to normal function.
Can be experienced as feeling of dizziness, nausea, spinning, wooziness, feeling light-headed, or loss of balance
Can be caused by several issues: acute virus, crystals in inner ear out of place (BPPV), inflammation in the inner ear, injury to ligaments or joints anywhere in the body (particularly in the neck), travel on a boat or plane, and/or use of some medications
You’re going to get better in … 8 to 16 visits!
Dizziness (Vertigo) Treatment Includes:
Epley’s Maneuver for BPPV (replacement of crystals in inner ear)
Vestibular Rehabilitation (therapeutic exercise to strengthen inner ear function & body’s ability to balance)
Joint Mobilization
Joint Manipulation
Therapeutic Massage
Therapeutic Exercise Prescription
Trigger Point Dry Needling
Associative Awareness Technique (AAT)
Mild traumatic brain injury affecting brain function, balance systems, and visual processing.
Usually experienced as headaches, dizziness, difficulty concentrating, light sensitivity, balance issues, nausea, or feeling “foggy.” Symptoms may worsen with physical or cognitive activity.
Can be caused by sports injuries, falls, motor vehicle accidents, or direct impact to the head or body.
You’re going to get better in … 4 to 10 visits!
Treatment Can Include:
Vestibular Rehabilitation
Balance Training
Oculomotor (Eye Movement) Therapy
Gradual Return-to-Activity Programming
Cervical Spine Treatment
Exertion Testing and Progression
Neurological injury caused by disruption of blood flow to the brain resulting in weakness, coordination loss, balance deficits, and difficulty with mobility or daily activities
Usually experienced as one-sided weakness, difficulty walking, poor balance, reduced endurance, or challenges with fine motor tasks. Some individuals may also notice changes in coordination, sensation, or spatial awareness.
Can be caused by ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke and may lead to long-term movement impairments without targeted rehabilitation.
You’re going to get better in … 8 to 16 visits!
Treatment Can Include:
Gait Training
Balance and Fall Prevention Training
Neuromuscular Re-education
Functional Strength Training
Task-Specific Motor Retraining
Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy
Progressive neurological condition affecting movement control, coordination, and balance
Usually experienced as slowed movement, stiffness, tremors, shuffling gait, difficulty turning, reduced arm swing, and impaired balance. Fatigue and decreased endurance are also common.
Can be caused by degeneration of dopamine-producing cells in the brain, leading to gradual changes in mobility and function.
You’re going to get better in … 8 to 14 visits!
Treatment Can Include:
Gait and Stride-Length Training
Balance and Postural Stability Training
Functional Strength Training
Dual-Task Training
Amplitude-Based Movement Exercises
Loss of balance is the body’s inability to balance, walk or stand steadily
This feeling can be experienced as: disequilibrium, unsteadiness on feet, the need to hold on to things while walking or standing, or tripping/falling
Loss of balance can be caused by several issues including: the natural progression of aging, injury to joints in the legs and feet, some medications, or long term alcohol use
You’re going to get better in … 8 to 16 visits!
Balance Treatment Can Include:
Vestibular Rehabilitation (therapeutic exercise to strengthen inner ear function & body’s ability to balance)
Proprioceptive Training (position sensors in the legs & spine joints)
Joint Mobilization

Associative Awareness Technique (AAT)
Tinnitus ear ringingTinnitus is when abnormal sounds appear within the inner ear
Can be experienced as ear ringing, clicking, wooshing, rumbling, humming, etc.
Can be caused by several issues including: neck tension and or joint dysfunction, stress
You're going to get better in .... 6 to 12 visits!
