If you have ever felt like something in your body just is not moving or functioning the way it should, even after traditional treatment, you are not alone. Many people experience lingering tension, discomfort, or dysfunction that cannot always be traced back to muscles or joints alone.
This is where Visceral Manipulation comes in.
At Coal Creek Physical Therapy, we are excited to share that both Chantal and Stephanie are now Level II trained and certified in Visceral Manipulation, allowing us to bring an even more advanced, whole-body approach to your care.

What is Visceral Manipulation?
Visceral Manipulation is a gentle, hands-on therapy that focuses on the internal organs and their surrounding connective tissues. While this may sound highly specialized, the concept is actually quite intuitive.
When your body moves well, everything works better.
A definition from the Barral Institute explains it best:
"Visceral Manipulation is a manual therapy consisting of gentle, specifically placed manual forces that encourage normal mobility, tone and inherent tissue motion of the viscera, their connective tissue and other areas of the body where physiologic motion has been impaired. Motion is a sign of life itself. Everything in the universe is in motion. Everything moves in space and time and humans are no exception to this rule. Our bodies need movement to be healthy. This same principle applies to every structure in our bodies including the viscera. For an organ to be healthy and have optimal function there needs to be motion."— Barral Institute
In simpler terms, your organs need to move freely just like your muscles and joints. When that motion is restricted, it can affect how your body feels and functions.
Why Visceral Health Matters
Your organs are not isolated. They are connected to your muscles, nerves, fascia, and overall movement patterns.
Restrictions in visceral mobility can contribute to a wide range of symptoms, including:
Persistent neck, back, or pelvic pain
Digestive discomfort or bloating
Post-surgical scar restrictions
Breathing limitations
Core weakness or instability
Unresolved tension patterns
Because of how interconnected the body is, treating the viscera can often unlock improvements in areas that have not responded to more traditional approaches.
Who Can Benefit?
This is one of the most common questions, and the honest answer is: almost everyone.
Visceral Manipulation is not limited to one type of injury or condition. It can benefit individuals of all ages and activity levels, from those recovering from surgery to those simply wanting to feel and move better in their daily lives.
If your body feels “stuck,” restricted, or not quite right, this approach may be worth exploring.
What to Expect
Sessions are gentle, precise, and highly individualized. Your therapist uses subtle, targeted techniques to assess and restore motion within the body.
Many patients are surprised by how light the touch is and how significant the results can feel.
This is not about forcing change. It is about encouraging the body to return to its natural, healthy movement patterns.
Our Continued Commitment to Advanced Care
