Joy Claypoole pt, DPT

physical therapist
Education
Dr. Joy (she/her) began learning the art of physical therapy at a young age while working in her mother’s physical therapy clinic in Hawai’i. In her pursuit of becoming a physical therapist, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Exercise Science from St. Olaf College in Northfield Minnesota where she was a three-sport athlete. Following college, she worked as a personal trainer focusing on empowering women to feel comfortable and confident in the weight room. She later graduated from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus with her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Dr. Joy is trained in the Associative Awareness Technique (AAT), she is Level 1 Dry Needle certified, and will be certified in pelvic floor therapy in the near future.
Specialty
Dr. Joy believes in the importance of building a relationship with every patient. She takes the time to find out what matters to each individual and tailors their treatment to get them back to the activities they love doing. She uses a combination of manual therapy, dry needling, exercise prescription, treatments for the nervous system, and lots of education to help patients achieve their goals.
Philosophy
Dr. Joy works from the philosophy that ‘knowledge is power'. She educates her patients because she believes that the more they know about their bodies, the more they can be an active participant in their healing process and take care of their body in the future. One of Dr. Joy’s passions is pain neuroscience and the psychology of rehabilitation. She utilizes that knowledge with her patients on the journey toward a life of pain-free and joyful movement.
Life
Dr. Joy commutes from Denver where she lives with her boyfriend and their dog, Nala. She enjoys gardening, yoga, strength training, backpacking, trail running, snowboarding, and any new activity that presents itself – the more challenging the better!
